Unable to hold the ceremony to present the Freedom Award in person this year, the US Capitol Historical Society turned to Shindig to enable the presentation of this year’s award to Dr. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress. In a moving ceremony featuring testimonials from DC heavy hitters David Rubenstein, Rep. Jim Clyburn, Sen. Ben Cardin, Speaker Pelosi and many others, Dr. Hayden was brought to the Shindig stage to revel in the kind words spoken in her honor.
Objective
Seamlessly translate the presentation of the US Capitol Historical Society Freedom Award into a virtual environment. Provide a VIP space for high powered speakers to give praise to the recipient of the award before the main event.
Strategy
Convene a high powered group of Congressmen, Senators and industry leaders to provide testimonials on the amazing work of Dr. Hayden. Utilize the broadcast functionality in Shindig to produce a high quality show.
Results
The ceremony, hosted by the Honorable Jane L. Campbell, was a success. Dr. Hayden brought her mom along as Congressmen, Senators and leaders of industry all regaled her with kind words and heaps of praise. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham and Dr. Joanne Freeman also joined the stage with Dr. Hayden for a vibrant discussion on the importance of The Library of Congress and its role in preserving our freedoms. In all, a momentous occasion that provided all of the emotion and dynamics expected from such an important award presentation.
